A well weathered female Porcelain Gray Moth (a.k.a. Pale-winged moth; Protoboarmia porcelaria) on Red Spruce - Penny Lake Preserve, Boothbay Harbor, Maine A well plated Porcelain Gray, over Red Spruce with a moss and lichen garnish. These guys sure do blend in! And to the point where the tree bark and lichens are more visible than the moth. Part of the moth's plan? Maybe not, but fun to think they could be thinkin' those kindsa things.
