Even in 2019 there are many pockets of western NC that appear to have escaped the progression of time. This was once a whistle stop town for the railroad but now most of the jobs, buildings and residents are gone other than this man and his guard dog. The days consist only of tinkering with an old lawnmower or watching the occasional car drive by.
