Even in 2019 there are many pockets of western NC that appear to have escaped the reach of time. This was once a whistle stop town for the railroad but now most of the jobs, buildings and residents are gone, leaving behind this man and his guard dog Trixie. Poverty is prevalent but both find enjoyment in the warm afternoon sun while Trixie chews on a discarded toothbrush.
