MOHANA, THE BOAT PEOPLE
The boat people, who live on board precarious vessels on Lake Manchar, look to the future with concern The once fishing paradise in southern Pakistan, is now contaminated by toxic industrial waste and salinization. Chemical pollution has been joined by the effects of climate change with a marked drop in rainfall. The loss of dozens of fishes has jeopardized the natural balance forcing them to abandon their traditional lifestyle Ravaged by poverty and disease the remaindind forty families than still live in wáter resist change, but the pressure is enormous and the future increasingly uncertain.
