13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Mono Lake, California
My dog and I traveled to the Eastern Sierra in California in search of fall colors. We rose early one morning and decided to see if we could capture the beauty of sunrise over Mono Lake. We hiked out in the dark to the eastern-most tufa spires on the south end of the lake and were immensely please with the way the rising sun illuminated the tufa and the clouds.
