While recently traveling through the Azores, I snuck into the abandoned Monte Palace Hotel. Shuttered nearly three decades ago, it's a hollow shell of what was once considered the ultimate in luxury travel. The damp disintegrating hallways give off a feel of hopelessness and unfulfilled dreams. That said, it was an amazing place to photograph. Time may stand still there, but deterioration does not.
