The lighting of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) took inspiration from the lunar cycle on which the Islamic religious calendar is based. It is bathed in cool white light at the full moon, shifting colour every two evenings, growing gradually bluer as the moon wanes.
