19th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Moral Mondays, Washington, D.C. 2021

A protester is escorted by U.S. Capitol Police during a planned arrest outside of the Senate Hart Building as part of Moral Mondays, a nationwide series of nonviolent directions led by Rev. William Barber and the Poor People's Campaign. This protest called for an end to the filibuster, a stalling tactic in the U.S. Senate, that was being used to interfere with voting rights protection legislation.
