16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Mosi oa Tunya

Long before Dr. Livingstone, the locals referred to Victoria Falls as "Mosi oa Tunya" -- "The Smoke that Thunders" -- referring to the mist and sound created by the falls. It is beautiful but can be challenging to shoot due to the near constant barrage of mist and rain; however, as with most subjects, waiting for just the right moment to shoot can lead to dreamy results.
