Its been a life long dream of mine to see the wild mountain gorillas, and this year, unexpectedly, I got an opportunity and I jumped at the chance. We flew to Entebbe from Nairobi aboard @officialkenyaairways and hired a car, drove across to the western part of Uganda to Bwindi Impenetrable forest, Ruhija Sector. Spent a night and early the next morning after our briefing we were off trekking down the most scenic and mystical valley. My excitement grew with every step through the thick under growth. At one point, even the biting safari ants, the stinging nettles and cold weather didnt bother me, the excitement to fullfill a life long dream pushed me through the slippery and muddy terrain. And at last, after 2 hours of trekking, I caught my first glimpse of these majestic animals. I was mesmerised by a baby gorilla and his antics, the human like behaviour, the mother was watching, very carefully over her child. I felt a sense of fullfilment, appreciation and most of all awe. I appreciate how closely related gorillas and humans are. A mother is a mother, no matter what species and a baby is a baby, with similar habits to any child. I have come back home with amazing experiences and memories to cherish and I cannot wait for my next visit to Uganda to witness these amazing creature. My picture is titled Mother Nurture, I am grateful to mother nature for giving us these amazing gifts and there is nobody more Nurturing than a mother. I hope my picture will help spread a message of awareness. The wildlife and wilderness areas are under threat and it is our responsibility to find the right solutions. Climate change, poaching, human encroachment of wildlife habitats and many other issues are affecting our heritage. We have a chance to act now and protect our wildlife and support the efforts of those on the ground, doing the hard work. Let all of us make a stand and spread the message and educate ourselves and others on the positive changes we can effect to reverse the damage caused to nature.
