Mother's Sorrow

As an homage to Steve McCurry, the National Geographic Photographer who famously took the photograph "Afghan Girl", my image captures the beauty of extreme human emotion--sorrow and fatigue--effected by a life of poverty on the often-overlooked poverty stricken streets of Los Angeles. The woman's dirty skin, tattered clothing, and weathered feet tell her tragic story better than words ever could. The warm colors and high contrast of my image replicate the characteristics of the roll film used by Steve McCurry himself, Kodachrome 64.
