23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Wildlife
Movement on the Snow Line
The Himalayan wolf is an essential predator and an integral part of this rugged ecosystem. Their typical habitat consists of cold deserts and alpine meadows between 3,200 to 5,600 meters, thriving in frigid, high-altitude conditions. However, observing this beautiful animal came with a sobering thought. Due to global warming, Human-Wildlife Conflict, Depletion of Wild Prey and habitat loss, the numbers of these species have drastically decreased.
