Mud Dauber Wasp (Hymenoptera Sphecidae) on Saltspring Island Canada

Mud Dauber Wasp (Hymenoptera Sphecidae) Spotted this girl having a rest on a rock on Saltspring Island, BC. This female is foraging for food for her larvae, while the male Mud Dauber guards the cocoon. Spiders are her speciality! The spiders are stung and paralyzed, then stuffed into a larva cell where they become food for the developing larva inside. Pupation occurs while the larvae is inside the cocoon and then go through complete metamorphosis!
