Muir Woods National Monument
A redwood grove in Muir Woods National Monument, Marin County, California. Protected since 1908, Muir Woods is one of the last remaining old-growth forests of the Coast Redwood, Sequoia sempervirens. Many of the giant trees are over 1,000 years old. They both depend upon and in turn create a unique ecosystem and microclimate that is severely threatened by climate change.
