Multiple bolts of lightning in the evening sky appearing behind a church building in West Virginia US
A sizzling summer storm in mid-August was lighting up the evening sky in Morgantown, West Virginia as I was making my way to the grocery store. On my way, I decided to pull over near a covered location, grabbed my tripod from the car and started taking pictures in the hopes of catching something. Most of the photos were duds but one lucky shot aimed towards this church managed to catch this intricate dendrite-patterned lightning strike. Although it appears close, this one was miles out as it took many seconds for me to hear the thunder. What an evening it was!
