My Late Father's Wood Carving Of Flying Quails

I inherited this piece of work when my husband and I went to the folk's place to help take care of Dad after his massive stroke in 2002. He passed away at 95 years old in 2003. I love this wood carving, not because of monetary value, but because of sentimental value and all the work that went into it. Dad carved this piece as a young man in his spare time when he was a sailor on the Great Lakes. Dad didn't have any carving tools back then but simply used a jack knife that he kept in his pocket and he saved wood scraps from box crates. He got the idea to carve the flying quails after he looking at a pretty picture in a magazine. I am so glad that he told me the story of his first carving. I decided to do a composite 11/14/2023 of two pictures. One of myself holding Dad's carving and another picture of the Flying Quails hanging on our wood weathered door outside to see it in a bigger form. I'll have to admit it was one of the most difficult composites I have ever done, but it made me appreciate even more the artistry that my father did on his first carving.
