I was a resident physician working in an Intensive Care Unit during the COVID-19 pandemic in Chicago. I was unable to see my mother for over a year. This photograph was taken the week that I was able to safely reunite with her. I was able to accompany her to receive her 2nd COVID-19 vaccine dose, and I snapped this photograph to capture the moment. I love how much pride her body language conveys here: head held high, eyes closed, completely soaking in the gravity of this moment we had long awaited after months of uncertainty.
