Nandi

The Nandi Temple, Khajuraho is a beautiful pillared monument, covered with detailed carvings from top to the base. In the middle of the shrine, houses a statue of a bull – the symbolic representation of Nandi. Temple is built on a chaturbhuj or a rectangular-shaped platform, forming a cross quadrate structure. It is dedicated to Nandi, the bull which serves as the mount (vāhana) of Shiva, in Hindu mythology. As a common architecture trend, temples of Shiva (and Parvati) display stone images of a seated Nandi facing Shiva. Following the trend, this temple is located opposite to the Vishvanatha Temple, which is dedicate to Shiva.
