13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Natural & artificial creations

At a square named Avaí Square, I was shooting photos of my granddaughter playing with another girl when I saw the bus coming. Based on its speed, I attempted to frame my granddaughter inside the bus wheel and succeeded. My goal as a photographer is to show up people living the closest possible to the real meaning of life, and that is located inside of us. Children can naturally experience the true feeling of living. The bus represents the artificial life we've been embedded into in the modern industrial society. I used a Nikon 5100 and a Tamron 18-270 zoom lens. I shot this picture in the neighborhood where I was born and brought up, a place named Meier, on the north side of Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.
