Dutton Island is a small barrier island in Northeast Florida nestled among marsh, creeks and the San Pablo river near the Atlantic ocean. Popular for its water access, fishing and camping the island is a perfect sample of this unique local ecology. Coastal Florida salt marshes are key to a healthy watershed. They filter water as it passes through on the way to the ocean while also providing habitat for a plethora of marine life such as redfish, sea trout, blue crabs, flounder, dolphins and even sharks. Nea is 7 years old. She is fascinated by the natural world, the island and wilderness. Connecting children and wilderness in positive ways bodes well for all of our futures.
