22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
New Growth
This photo is a picture of a new leaf/stem beginning to unfurl on my Colocasia plant. I took it because I am extremely fond of my plants and this one in particular. I love examining the veins which this close up view highlights. This particular plant is named after the warrior Agamemnon but is a female better known as Aggie. Her vitality epitomizes my concept of the Greek commander who fought in the Trojan wars. She sits near a window with North-Northeastern light which shines brightly early in the mornings.
