A new shoot of the Wild Turmeric plant grows out of the forest floor to harbinger the start of the monsoon season in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai. The underground rhizomes of this plant remain dormant through winter. After the first rains the plant grows vigorously. Within a month the forest floor is covered with green shoots and pinkish white inflorescence.
