14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Night at Heceta Head Lighthouse, Oregon

A remarkably clear night sky blessed the Oregon coast. The light beam at the fully operational lighthouse at Heceta Head could shine thirty miles. I was the only person at the parking lot watching the setting sun and the lighthouse beacon. I wanted to capture both the setting sun and the light beacon.
