Ninamarca Funeral Towers in the Andes
We were in southeastern Peru, on the road from Cusco to Manu National Park. Between the towns of Huancarani and Paucartambo, we came across the funeral towers of Ninamarca, a cemetery of the Lupaca pre-Inca culture of 1000-1400 AD. The people buried in the funeral towers, or chullpas, are believed to be Lupaca leaders who lived in the area.
