21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Nom Station

I appreciate how Mother Nature orchestrates the changing seasons at Nom station (called Ben Nom in Vietnamese), transforming it into a captivating spectacle during the dry season from June to September each year. The emergence of land mounds resembling "sunken islands" harmonizes with the vibrant colors created by various algae thriving on the lake's surface, crafting a breathtaking and enchanting panorama. Viewed from above, this landscape resembles a mesmerizing painting.
