Nomadic Life
Group of young Boudouma Arab semi-nomadic women gathered around the fire (Chad). The Arab community has been present in Chadian territory for hundreds of years, mostly in south central Chad. Despite their wide distribution, these Arabs represent a single ethnic group composed of many tribes. The Arabs of Chad are semi-sedentary or semi-nomadic peoples who herd camels, horses, cattle, goats, and sheep across the plains of the Lake Chad area. In the region around N'Djamena, some Arabs have adopted a more settled lifestyle. During the rainy season, Arab groups spread throughout the region, while in the dry season they live a more settled life, usually on the fallow agricultural lands of their sedentary neighbors.
