Northern Parula sings among apple blossoms
A male Northern Parula - the smallest species of eastern warbler - sings enthusiastically from the flowered boughs of an apple tree. The bird had probably only arrived from tropical wintering grounds a day or so before I made this photo. It wasted no time in establishing its territory, and made the rounds of singing perched. One was this apple tree, which made for an irresistible scene.
