O caminho para frente ("The Way Forward")
Congadas, also known as Reinados (Feast of Kingdoms), are cultural and religious manifestations that blend African and Catholic traditions. They are prevalent in the State of Minas Gerais in Brazil. The first Congado celebrations in Minas Gerais took place in the 18th century. They were strongly associated with the brotherhoods of Our Lady of the Rosary, Saint Benedict, and Saint Efigênia, formed by enslaved and freed Black people. These festivities spread across various regions of the state, each developing its own particularities while maintaining the spirit of devotion, resistance, and celebration.
