20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
A Hollyhock in all its Colorful Gory

We don’t see or appreciate the amazing beauty all around us. Look closely at this flower and let your breath be taken away! From the paper-like, frail, see-through pink of the flower; to the stunning, thin, white, bifurcating, lines stretching from the center; to the yellow luminescent center; to the white stamen with those thick whiskers at the top, and those single, stretching ,filaments towards the base. This is a flower at its most beautiful. Soon to fade. But now so beautiful.
