Old Scituate Lighthouse at Sunset
During the War of 1812, as the story goes, two daughters of the Scituate lighthouse-keeper, Rebecca and Abigail Bates, played their instruments loudly. Offshore, the British thought it was the town militia preparing a defense and so they retreated.
