18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Older woman in the village I was working in as a missionary.

Her Friendly Smile Older woman of the house, probably a grandmother. I am a missionary for my church and I was working at her house planting fruit trees. When we finished and right before we left this lady comes out to see what we were doing. Sometimes the people of the village are afraid of cameras but in the best way I could I asked if I could take her photo, she smiled and I assumed it was okay. She was so sweet looking and seemed very happy that we were working at the family home. This photo is my favorite of the 18 years of being a missionary.
