It was the end of day trip to Avila on a very snowy day in February. We were living in Salamanca and hadn't seen snow the whole winter. So when we learned the city of Avila had become a winter wonderland over night, we strapped on our boots for a visit. That day I learned that the plains of Castilla y Leon are at their most beautiful and enchanting in late winter, with fresh snow over fields and the little houses, the evening fog making us feel like the only people on earth.
