14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Mobile
On the Cusp
Early in my daughter's eighteenth year, we took a walk at a favorite lake. As she submerged a finger to test the waters, I thought about all of life spread out before her. Her tiny figure at the edge of this wide-open body of water just seemed symbolic to me of, what I hope, will be an exciting, fulfilling future for her.
