On the river to the indigenous village Sikilta

I had the opportunity to visit the indigenous village of the Miskitos in the Nicaraguan jungle. Their main way of transportation is using the river with canoes made out of huge trees. The river is everything for these people, food, hygiene, life and laughter. The photo is from the canoe that is like a family member and symbolizes transportation, belonging and success. In many ways the Miskito life style is threatened by illegal deforestation and mining.
