The image shows a boy clinging to a wall between the sea and the earth. In Cuba, “el malecón” is a long wall that borders the whole city and separates it from the sea. Local young people use this space as a swimming and socializing area. The boardwalk is one of the most representative architectural structures in the city. For me the image is a metaphor for the strength and resistance of Cubans against difficulties.
