14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
On top of the world, or just the Alps. Switzerland

We woke up at 3am to start hiking this mountain named Bunderspitz. It is a mountain of the Bernese Alps, located between Adelboden and Kandersteg. It took 3 grueling hours. I cried and contemplated cutting my calves all with my knife, but clearly it was all worth it in the end. The most beautiful view I've ever seen. If you look closely you can see a waterfall and a small village in the valley below. There's also about 100 goats and cows making the most beautiful sounds with their bells. Breathtaking, really.
