14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
One of the many lakes flourishing in the mountains of Colorado.
We went up to high country to escape the heat and ended up at Barnard Lake, where there are many small lakes with hiking trails in between. As we were leaving, I saw this small lake behind some trees, so I got out to have a look. I wish a picture could describe the glorious silence here. I tried.
