16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
One Way

My senior year of high school, my photography teacher had my class wander downtown in our hometown Savannah to take some street photos. This was my first time ever doing street photography. I was both excited and nervous for this assignment. A couple hours into the trip, my friends and I decided we wanted to stop for a bite to eat. That’s when I came across this man in a long black coat and hat. Although this photo was taken in the fall, fall in the South is usually quite warm. He strolled past us with purpose, his coat billowing behind him. He struck me as very mysterious. My friends and I followed him for a good amount of time until he stopped in front of City Hall. He did not notice us, or at least he pretended not to.
