14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Onion snow.
The last snow of the season, or onion snow , called this because it signals the time to plant onions. Always a happier time knowing that soon the earth will warm enough and the first flowers will be peeking through the ground. It may be a little snow or a lot, but it doesn't ever last long. It's a good time to shake off cabin fever and get outside.
