While on vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama, this Spring, I was hanging out on the beach late one afternoon when I noticed a group of young men surfing. One surfer was a cut above the others, and I was at the right angle with the sun to get some amazing shots. I didn't realize how well they turned out until I uploaded them on my laptop later that evening, so I tried to find this surfer the next day to send them to him. The lifeguards had me post the photos on the Orange Beach Facebook Page, and he was quickly identified, and I was able to connect with him on social media. He told me he would be honored if I submitted them to the Smithsonian Photo Contest!
