Orphaned Sloth
A young orphaned two-toed sloth (Choloepus hoffmanni) hangs on the arm of her keeper at a sloth orphanage in Costa Rica. Sloths are threatened by human development and are prone to being killed by power lines and cars. Orphanages such as this one raise awareness of these issues, and money from entrance fees and donations go to sloth conservation. In this way, tourists can make a direct contribution to wildlife conservation.
