The osprey was guarding its nest in the Chesapeake Bay. It was perched on a tall poll and watched me as I approached in a kayak. The photo allowed me to see an osprey in a pre-flight position, especially with its talons dug into the poll. It was communicating, “This is my territory. Stay clear.” I was respectful and did not go any closer, so the osprey did not leave the perch.
