23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Artistic
Ourselves

This image is a self-portrait made from multiple photographs of myself, composited to form three figures embracing a single spine. Their bare forms symbolize the inner self unguarded and untouched by the world’s expectations. The piece speaks to the quiet labor of tending to our inner selves: the one who remembers, the one who carries on, and the one still finding her way. They simply lean in, shoulder to shoulder, learning again that we do not have to abandon ourselves to survive.
