Overtaken by nature

The shipwreck pictured here is called "La Merced", a wooden-hulled 232 foot long by 42.6 feet of beam, 4-masted schooner. Built in California in 1917, the ship carries petroleum products for Standard Oil. In the late 1920s, La Merced was converted for use as a floating cannery in Alaskan waters. In 1965, the ship was sold for scrap; and now used as the breakwater for Lovric’s marina in Anacortes, Washington. The ship, which is overtaken by nature is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America.
