Painted Hills of Oregon

Listed as one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon, the Painted Hills are one of three units in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Their name is derived from the colorful layers of its hills corresponding to various geographical eras, formed when the area was an ancient river floodplain.
