Palenquera Cartagena
Portrait of a "Palenquera" in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. Palenquero is the only Spanish-based creole in Latin America. The ethnic group which speaks creole consists of less than 8,000 people. Palenquero is spoken in Colombia, in the village of San Basilio de Palenque. In addition to the well know pineapples, papayas and bananas, they sell "Nisperos, Zapotes, Tomate de Arbol (tree tomatoe) and Mamey" less known to tourists.
