Pelagia noctulica lost after the flood

This photograph captures a solitary Pelagia noctiluca jellyfish floating near the edge of the Sant’Antonio pier in Siracusa, just after a violent storm had swept through the province. The sea was unusually calm, so still it appeared almost solid, creating a surreal “diorama” effect. The jellyfish seemed suspended in a vast basin of epoxy resin, with the green reflections of the harbor water casting aurora-like tones across the frame. Though the area is often neglected and littered, it shares space with small lagoons that attract birds, reptiles, insects, and stray cats, forming a paradoxical blend of biodiversity and abandonment.
