This is a pileated woodpecker. I live across the street from my daughter and her family in a small town in the Shawnee National Forest. We both love to feed and watch the birds. One spring morning she called me over because a pileated woodpecker was in her backyard. We were thrilled! We watched for awhile taking as many photos as possible. It visited a few times that spring and was so much fun to watch.
