Pincushion Cactus in Bloom July 22, 2019 - Tucson, Arizona
The pincushion cacti in my front yard bloom about the middle of July each year. The pincushion is generally no more than 3-4 inches (8-10cm) tall and each flower is no more than an inch (2.5 cm) or so in diameter. Because the flowers are small, they do not make much of an impression from a distance. Up close, they are very pretty. Seed pods from a Palo Verde tree lie around the cactus,
