20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Drone/Aerial
Pinky Pie
During year ending and up to early next year, the beautiful flamingos adorn the Gulf of Mannar and Jaffna peninsula lagoons in Sri Lanka. With their long-legs, long-neck, black beak, and pink feathery coats. It is indeed feasting to our eyes. I was fortunate enough to spend some quality time observing them and clicking as many pictures as I could because to me every frame out there was unique. In this picture, you can see a flock of flamingos wading through the algae rich waters which resemblance an island in a dark muddy lagoon, which is almost black, gave me this perfect natural history moment, which otherwise human eye cannot see. I used a drone in very high in the sky with zero disturbance to the flock to capture this unique shot.
